Australia

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 24, 2009, 8:14 PM
I'm planning on moving to Australia as soon as I'm done with college here, and hopefully I'll have the funds by then. Any creative ideas on how to make a bit of money? Moving internationally is pricey, and I need more savings. I'm completely new to this, so any advice from you Aussies or from anyone else I would really appreciate it. Anyway, I wanted to feature some awesome Aussie art I've found. Enjoy!

Pinhole Project Photo Survey

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 2, 2009, 9:08 AM
I'm finally in my first photo class and we're starting off with a lens-less method called pinhole photography. We took our first pinhole shots yesterday right before it started getting dark. I was off with my exposure times so I kept on getting underexposed and overexposed shots. Hopefully I'll get it right before we have to turn in our work.

I wanted to feature some pinhole photographers who have gotten it down. I hope to be at their level before next Thursday.

"Treasure" by ~svegliar shows how a convex/concurved paper can interestingly alter the composition. The exposure is right on.

Pinhole photography can depict a landscape or portrait in such a way that seems to alter time. "The brand new old picture" by ~Cindd shows this time alteration by the lighting and texture of the portrait. I also appreciate the look that the lack of prominent facial features adds.

The effects of pinhole photography varies through the range of subject matter, lighting, etc, to create as it seems a totally different perspective on our world. "Mary full of Grace" by ~Nitekry sent chills through my skin. The statuette's ghostly figure seems to loom out of the dark background as the vignetting lulls a darkening sky. Very well done.

End of the Semester FEATURED ARTISTS

Thu May 7, 2009, 6:51 PM
I have one week of summer and then summer class. I do apologize to those who I've lost track of during this past semester. It's been crazy hectic and I'm glad I've finally gotten around to posting another journal.

Anyway. To those who haven't been updated, I finally got my dog. Her name is Caboose and she's a 2 year old female Australian cattle dog. See her here.

I took a figure drawing class this past semester and it was a hell of a lot harder than it seems. I decided it was time to feature some more traditional medias and here are the figure drawings I thought were worthy of recognition. Enjoy!

This self-portrait by ~studiocafe is a beautiful depiction of the combinations of skin and structure. Wonderfully done.

Weight, balance, and selective shading have all been mastered in this figure study by ~cbernhardt.

Entrancing curves and superior line quality in ~Bellerophon13's Figure Study show us the entrancing aesthetics of gentleness and importance of form. Notice how the hand on the left is not complete, yet it enhances the atmosphere of the piece in which a completed hand would not have. This is a prime example of knowing what to draw and what not to draw.

I ended the semester with a lousy B in my figure drawing class. However I am glad it's done with and I can now move on to better things.

Thanks for reading.

Dogs?

Sat Jan 24, 2009, 5:47 AM
I want one.
Really bad.

For the past four years, I've had my heart set out on getting a blue heeler.
However my current situation (being in college, living in an apartment, and having little money) leaves me as being unable to get one at the moment.

So, what is a blue heeler, you ask.

I figured it was time to feature some more artists.
Enjoy.

Light-Trails

Mon Dec 22, 2008, 3:19 PM
Recently I've been experimenting with light-trails (I just submitted the one I liked the most. See here:[link]) and I wanted to acknowledge this kind of photography. Here's a few wonderful light-trails I found. Enjoy!

If you haven't tried them before, I definitely recommend that you should.
